PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Friday the club had signed former FC Montreal midfielder Alessandro Riggi, pending league and USSF approval. Riggi scored 15 goals over the past two seasons with FC Montreal. Per club policy, the terms of the deal are not public.

In 2010, Riggi joined the Montreal Impact organization as a 15-year-old in its youth academy. Upon turning 18, he went overseas to Europe where he spent time with Italian side Sampdoria, Spanish side Celta Vigo, and Portuguese side Atletico S.C.

He returned to North America in 2015 with USL side FC Montreal. In the club’s inaugural season, Riggi led the team with nine goals, and also notched two assists. He followed his impressive rookie season with six goals in 2016, good for second on the team.

Phoenix Rising FC now has 18 players signed for the 2017 season. The club will begin its preseason training camp on February 18, at Grande Sports Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona.
