Nashville SC Co-Owner Marcus Whitney got the surprise of his life on Christmas Day, as his wife surprised the long-time Tottenham Hotspur fan with a trip to White Hart Lane this weekend to see Spurs in their final season at the legendary ground.

A member of Nashville Spurs, a supporters group that gathers for every game at Belcourt Taps in Nashville, Whitney and Nashville Spurs Chairman Wes Robinson told their story to the Premier League’s social media team pitchside prior to Saturday’s game with Middlesbrough.

“My wife, Rachel, conspired to put this together,” Whitney said. “I wanted to come out this year, big time, but I had a lot going on. It was Christmas, and they got me a present that was a book about the Lane. I opened it up and there was a plane ticket. It was brilliant, I’ve just been on Cloud 9.”

The launch of 2018 USL expansion club Nashville SC has been one of the things keeping Whitney busy. While he was enjoying a 1-0 victory that kept Spurs in second place in the Premier League’s standings, the club welcomed a large contingent of hopefuls that had convened at Natchez Trace Field on the campus of Vanderbilt University looking to be part of the club’s PDL team – Nashville SC U-23 – this summer.

If the team he owns can be as successful as the one he supports, Whitney will definitely be an even happier man.

“White Hart Lane is a legendary stadium, Spurs are a legendary side, and it’s a great time to be a Spurs supporter,” Whitney said. “We are challenging right now, so it’s a great time to be here.”
