RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC announced on Wednesday it had officially signed midfielder Junior Burgos, pending league and federation approval. Burgos, 28, is a current member of El Salvador’s national team.

“Junior is a very skillful midfielder,” said 1868 FC Head Coach Ian Russell. “He’s very good at making the final pass and is excellent at set pieces.”

Burgos made his international debut in a 2-0 victory against the Dominican Republic on June 21, 2014, and also competed for his country at the UNCAF Cup later that year. This past season he competed for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he made eight appearances on loan from Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United FC.

Burgos began his professional career after being selected in the third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft – becoming the first player from Cal Poly to do so – by Toronto FC, where he made two appearances in MLS. In 2014, Burgos joined the Atlanta Silverbacks, and helped the side reach the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with three goals and three assists. The next year he tallied four goals and six assists for the club.

In addition to his collegiate career at San Jose State and Cal Poly, Burgos also competed for three clubs in the PDL, including the Chicago Fire U23.
