2017 MLS SuperDraft pick and former Pfeiffer University striker joins Steel FC

With the start of the club’s second preseason on the horizon, Bethlehem Steel FC announced Monday that they have signed forward Santi Moar. The deal is pending league and federation approval.

“When you are playing in college soccer, you always hope that you can become a professional and take that next step and luckily Bethlehem Steel FC gave me this opportunity,” Moar said. “I believe Bethlehem will be a great place for me. Coach Burke and (Philadelphia Union Sporting Director) Earnie Stewart have shown great confidence in me and that makes this decision even easier.”

"We are very excited to have Santi on board. We were able to scout him through the summer and fall and think that he will add a new dimension to our attack in 2017,” head coach Brendan Burke said. “He has goals in him and very good vision to match. We hope that he will compete to start right away."

A fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Union in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Moar comes to Steel FC after a strong two-year performance at Division II powerhouse Pfeiffer University where he scored 24 goals and added 33 assists. In his junior season, Moar started 24 matches for the Falcons, totaling 34 points (10 goals, 14 assists). During the squad’s journey to a National Championship, Moar accounted for six points in the team’s five NCAA Tournament matches. For his strong debut season, Moar earned First Team All-Conference Carolinas, Second team All-Region and Second Team All-State accolades.

Last season, Moar raised his game with a team-high 19 assists while adding the third most goals on the squad with 14. In his 20 starts in his senior season, Moar showcased his soccer mind and talents by placing over 57 percent of his shots on target and helped lead the team to its third consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship. In his final season with the Falcons, Moar earned NCCSIA second team and All-Southeast Region honors.

Moar also spent time playing for the Charlotte Eagles of the Premier Development League last summer. Moar helped lead the squad to the top of the South Atlantic Division while scoring eight goals and adding four assists. Moar capped off the summer with PDL All-Eastern Conference honors.
