HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls announced on Monday they had signed 2016 USL Cup champion Dan Metzger, formerly of the New York Red Bulls II. Metzger is a product of the Red Bulls academy and played the past two seasons for the Red Bulls II.

Metzger recorded 40 appearances, three goals and three assists with the Red Bulls II. He also appeared in six USL Cup Playoff games, and helped NYRB II claim the 2016 USL Regular Season Championship.

"Dan has shown well over the last two years with our USL team," said Red Bulls Head Coach Jesse Marsch. "Between those games and opportunities in first team training, he has earned a spot on the MLS roster. We look forward to him continuing his professional development this year."

The midfielder has made two first-team appearances for the Red Bulls. Metzger made his first team debut in the 2015 International Champions Cup victory against Chelsea FC, and scored in a 2016 friendly win against Club America.

The Holmdel, N.J., native has been associated with the Red Bulls organization since 2010. During that time, he was a member of the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team and U.S. Soccer Development Academy U-16 National Starting XI for the 2009-10 season, an ESPN High School All-American, All-County, All-State, and NSCAA All-Region player.

The 23-year-old played four years of college soccer at Maryland. Metzger appeared in 88 career matches and tallied eight goals and four assists.

After signing with Red Bulls II, Metzger made seven total appearances for the U.S. U23 Men's National Team, including four starts, in 2015. He also helped the U.S. U23s to a third place finish in the 2015 Toulon Tournament.
