ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Friday the signing of former Seattle Sounders FC forward Darwin Jones, pending league and federation approval. Per club and league policy, further contract details were not disclosed.

A 24-year old forward, Jones joins the Rowdies after two years with the Sounders in Major League Soccer. This past season he led Seattle Sounders FC 2 with seven goals in 19 appearances. He is the second former Sounder to join the Rowdies this week, joining Jamaican international defender Damion Lowe.

“Darwin is an exciting young player who our fans will enjoy watching,” Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. “He can play either as a withdrawn second striker or in the wide areas as a winger. He’s quick and decisive, bringing plenty of quality to our attack.”

Born in Chicago but raised in the Seattle area, Jones competed collegiately for the University of Washington, while also playing in the PDL for the Sounders FC U23. With the Huskies he was named to the All-Pac 12 First Team in back-to-back seasons, and helped the side claim the 2013 Pac-12 Championship.

In 2015, Jones turned professional and signed as a Homegrown Player with the Sounders. He made his pro debut in the USL for S2 that March, and notched five goals in 15 appearances in his rookie season, while also making nine MLS appearances for the Sounders.
