OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC’s Callum Irving and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2’s Sean Melvin lead a contingent of 11 players with USL experience named in Canada’s 18-man squad that will visit Bermuda for an international exhibition on Sunday.

"It has been a vibrant and positive atmosphere," said Michael Findlay, Canada Soccer's Men's National Team Interim Head Coach. "It has been a very competitive environment and it has provided us with some early assessment and evaluation for the 2017 season."

Irving, who signed with Ottawa this offseason after helping Rio Grande Valley FC reach the USL Cup Playoffs in 2016, and Melvin, who made eight appearances for WFC2 in his first professional season last year, are the two goalkeepers included in the squad. Both have yet to make their debut for Canada’s full national team.

Fury FC forward Carl Haworth, who made his debut for Canada against South Korea last November, was ruled out for the contest as the Canadian Soccer Association announced he had suffered an injury during camp.

Also named in the squad is 2016 USL 20 Under 20 selection Marco Bustos, with the creative Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder being joined by Ben McKendry – who competed for WFC2 in each of the past two seasons – and Marcel De Jong from the Whitecaps.

Montreal Impact forward Anthony Jackson-Hamel, who recorded 10 goals in the 2016 USL regular season, is also included, as are fellow former FC Montreal loanees Wandrille Lefevre and Kyle Bekker. Toronto FC’s Jay Chapman – who spent time on loan with Toronto FC II in 2015 – is also selected, alongside TFC’s Jonathan Osorio and Tosaint Ricketts.

Other players to have previously competed in the USL in the squad include Ben Fisk, who competed on loan with the Charleston Battery in 2014, and Will Johnson, who appeared for the Portland Timbers 2 as he came back from injury in 2015. Maxim Tissot, who previously competed for FC Montreal, rounds out the group.
