ORLANDO, Fla. – SC Corinthians Paulista struck late in the first half, and then wrapped up victory with under 10 minutes to go as it advanced to the final of the 2017 Florida Cup Playoff with a 4-1 victory against fellow Brazilian side Vasco Da Gama on Wednesday night at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Corinthians will face the winner of Thursday night’s contest between Argentina’s River Plate and Brazil’s Sao Paulo FC on Sunday afternoon in Orlando.

Corinthians had the first big chance in the fifth minute when Jo was released into the left side of the penalty area and lashed a near-post shot that was turned away by Vasco goalkeeper Martin Silva.

The teams then began to exchange chances, with Nene’s header for Vasco being denied by a big save from Cassio Ramos, and Rodriguinho’s volleyed effort from the edge of the area for Corinthians was turned wide by Silva. From the ensuing corner Corinthians went close again, but Fabian Balbuena’s header across the front of the goal didn’t get a final touch and went just wide.

Corinthians took the lead in the 21st minute, though, when Camacho broke forward from midfield and played a good give-and-go with Rodriguinho. The flicked return pass put Camacho in at the top of the penalty area, and his low finish to the left corner left Silva helpless.

Vasco hit back quickly as Eder picked up possession 25 yards from goal on the left side of the penalty area. The midfielder looked up, and curled a perfect finish into the top-right corner of the net to make it 1-1 in the 25th minute.

Both teams continued to press forward in the remainder of the half as the game remained relatively open. Rodriguinho had an effort saved for Corinthians four minutes before halftime, but as the half went into stoppage time another clever one-two with Angel Moreno set up Marlone for a low finish to the right corner and a 2-1 Corinthians lead.

Vasco pushed for another equalizer early in the second half, but it was Corinthians that went closer to finding the back of the net in the 64th minute when Guilherme’s low volley from the left side of the penalty area was turned wide for a corner.

Vasco created back-to-back chances in the 78th minute, the first falling to Yago Pikachu as he got in behind the Corinthians defense and fired a tight-angle shot from the right that was tipped over the crossbar. From the ensuing corner, a delivery to the back post found Ederson for a header, but the save was made again.

Corinthians bolstered its lead with eight minutes to go, though as a half-clearance came to Marquinhos Gabriel at the top of the penalty area. Gabriel took on his defender through the left side of the box, and then chipped a perfect cross for Colin Kazim-Richards to nod home at the back post.

Gabriel then added a fourth with under a minute to go as Kazim-Richards returned the favor, breaking in behind a disorganized Vasco backline before giving the winger an empty net to finish into to wrap up the scoring.
