LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Wednesday the signing of winger Brian Ownby ahead of the 2017 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Ownby joins Louisville after having spent the past two seasons with the Richmond Kickers, where he recorded seven goals and seven assists in 39 regular-season appearances. Ownby has made more than 50 appearances in the USL overall, having spent time on loan with the Kickers in 2013 and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in 2014 from the Houston Dynamo. Ownby also made 29 appearances in MLS for the Dynamo.

“Brian is someone who has tremendous potential,” said Louiville Head Coach James O’Connor. “He possesses a lot of the attributes that I think are needed to play in the MLS, and it’s just a matter of putting it together. We think we can help him with that.

“We’re excited to get Brian on board. He gives us a bit of experience and pace. He’s someone who we think can have a strong year.”

Prior to his selection in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Dynamo, Ownby featured for Reading United AC in the PDL and collegiately for the University of Virginia, where he earned All-ACC Second Team honors in his senior season and helped the Cavaliers claim the 2009 NCAA Championship. He also competed for the U.S. U20 National Team at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup.

A native of Glen Allen, Va., Ownby said he was looking forward to the new challenge in Louisville.

“I’m from Virginia and grew up watching the Kickers — they’ve done a lot for me the past few years — but I think it was just time to experience something else,” Ownby said. “I’m looking forward to playing in this city in front of new fans. Based on what I saw last year, Louisville City has such a good foundation, and they were so close to winning the championship. I hope to bring my best and win a title for Louisville.”

Ownby’s signing marks the fourth new addition to City’s roster joining midfielder Devon “Speedy” Williams and a pair of versatile defenders/midfielders, Sean Russell and Sean Totsch. O’Connor also has under contract 13 returning players who helped Louisville reach the 2016 USL Eastern Conference Final.
