Fan vote to decide top goal of 2016 USL season

Hundreds of goals were scored throughout the 2016 USL campaign but now the time has come for you to decide which one was the best.

Voting in the 2016 USL Goal of the Year competition opens Monday with 16 strikes vying for the top prize in a knockout format that will be decided entirely by a fan vote on USLSoccer.com.

Seven of the entrants earned their way into the bracket by being named Fans' Choice Goal of the Month winners while the remaining nine slots were filled by Goal of the Month contenders that garnered the highest percentage of the vote despite ultimately falling short of the number one spot.

FC Cincinnati midfielder Eric Stevenson leads a quintet of entries from the Queen City into the bracket after previously picking up Goal of the Month honors for June and the USL playoffs. In all, 11 clubs from the 2016 USL season are represented with the added intrigue that several former adversaries such as Kris Tyrpak and Rafa Castillo (San Antonio FC), as well as Aodhan Quinn and three members of the FC Cincinnati contingent, are slated to line up as teammates during the upcoming season. 2016 USL MVP Sean Okoli is the lone exception from the group after completing an offseason move to MLS side NYCFC.

Voting rules permit one vote per user for all eight of the first round matchups. Voting for the first round will continue through 9:00 a.m. ET on Monday, January 23.
