Played for Ottawa in PDL, competed professionally Iceland past two seasons

OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC announced on Thursday that the club had signed former Ottawa Fury PDL midfielder Jonathan Barden, pending league and federation approval. Barden spent the last two seasons playing in the Icelandic Premier League with the IBV Vestmannaeyjar, featuring in 38 games.

"Jonathan is a high-energy box-to-box midfield player that is the perfect player profile for our counter-pressing style," said Fury FC Head Coach Paul Dalglish. "He is another player that plays with a lot of heart and I am sure that he will be an entertaining player to watch for our supporters."

Barden is no stranger to the Nation's Capital or the Fury organization as the 24-year-old played for the Fury’s PDL team in 2013 where he featured alongside current Fury FC forward Carl Haworth. Barden will also be reunited with Sito Seoane, who he played both with and against during his two years in Iceland.

Prior to making his professional debut in 2015, the London, England native played collegiately at James Madison University for four years where he started 65 of 66 games. During his time with the Dukes, Barden earned selection to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Conference Rookie team in 2011 and the All-Conference Third Team in 2014.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to come and play for Ottawa," said Barden. "It really seems like a club that is going places with a top manager, a great group of players and excellent fans. It's an opportunity that I couldn't pass up and I'm looking forward to helping the team reach its massive potential."
