SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday it had signed midfielder Billy Forbes for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Forbes returns to San Antonio where he spent two seasons playing with the now-defunct San Antonio Scorpions from 2014-15. During his time with the Scorpions, Forbes appeared in 48 matches, scored nine goals and recorded a club-high 15 assists while helping lead his team to a championship in 2014 at Toyota Field. Forbes led the league in assists in 2014 with seven, while ranking second in the same category the following season with eight. The 26-year-old was named the Player of the Week in Week 7 of the 2015 season.

“We are really glad to have Billy back in San Antonio,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He is an exciting player who we feel can be one of the best players in the USL. He can create opportunities for himself and other players especially in the attacking half. We hope that we can continue to help with his development here in San Antonio.”

A former standout in the PDL with the Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors and Mississippi Brilla FC, Forbes scored nine goals in 22 appearances prior to turning professional with the Scorpions. This past season he made 29 appearances and had a team-high four assists and three goals for Rayo OKC to help the club reach the postseason.

“I am so excited to be back home in San Antonio and join an organization as impressive as this one,” said Forbes. “I have incredible memories of playing in front of these amazing fans at Toyota Field and I can’t wait to experience that again. I look forward to working with the team and everyone else involved to help bring a USL championship to San Antonio.”

Forbes is also the current captain of the Turks and Caicos National Team. He has appeared in six matches since 2008 including World Cup Qualifiers, scoring one goal over 540 total minutes. Forbes played collegiate soccer at Western Texas University, scoring eight goals in 18 games before transferring to Lubbock Christian University in 2013, and later becoming the Chaparrals’ first-ever All-American.

Forbes joins Akwafei Ajeakwa, Kris Tyrpak, Cyprian Hedrick and Ben Newnam as new faces on the San Antonio FC roster this season in addition to the nine returning players from last year.
