Was Finalist for PDL Young Player of the Year prior to signing with Saprissa

OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC announced on Tuesday it had signed former PDL All-League selection and Young Player of the Year Finalist Ramon Martin Del Campo for the upcoming USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Del Campo, a versatile player that can play as a center back or a fullback, comes to Ottawa after spending last season on loan with Puerto Rico FC. In 2016, the 23-year-old featured in 16 games for the side, going 90 minutes in every game. He also recorded two assists, and earned one Team of the Week selection for PRFC.

"Ramon is a hardworking, aggressive defender that has an endless desire to win the ball back," said Fury FC General Manager and Head Coach Paul Dalglish. "He's another player that has that ruthless desire to win and his profile suits the type of players that I want to work with. We bring in players that will help us entertain with hearth this season."

Del Campo was named to the PDL All-League Team in 2014, and was also named as a finalist the league’s Young Player of the Year – which was won by current Real Salt Lake midfielder Ricardo Velazco – after a standout season for the San Jose Earthquakes U23. He began his professional career with Costa Rican power Deportivo Saprissa the following year, and in 2016 spent time on loan with PRFC.

"It's a privilege to have the opportunity to represent Canada's capital city," said Del Campo. "I believe in Paul's mission and vision of Ottawa. It's a team that should be competing for silverware every season and I wanted to be a part of this organization. I promise to battle every game to give the fans and the city a championship."
