FENTON, Mo. – Conditions were on the chilly side, but that didn’t keep what has become an annual tradition for the St. Louligans from being a rousing success on Saturday as the organization’s charity match against the St. Louis division of the American Outlaws took place at the Worldwide Technology Soccer Park.

Home to Saint Louis FC, which sponsored the event alongside Urban Chestnut Brewing, the match benefits St. Louis Area Food Banks. According to St. Louligans member Matthew Bird, the game has grown each year.

“We’re very keen to help local charities, and this has been a big thing for us, helping the food bank,” said Bird on Saint Louis FC’s YouTube channel. “The first year we donated over 400 meals, and two years ago we did over 4,000 meals, so it’s exponentially gotten bigger every single time we’ve done this.”

For STLFC Chief Financial Office Tom Strunk, the event was a great example of how the local soccer community comes together, whether to support the area’s teams, or to work together toward a worthwhile cause.

“If you look around here there are 40-plus people warming up, and there’s another 40 or so people in the Grille or just out here supporting a great cause for a good time with all these supporters,” said Strunk. “It’s going to be an awesome day.”
