Amaya signs new contract to remain with Los Dos in 2017 season

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy II announced on Thursday the club had exercised contract options on defender Josh Turnley and midfielder Jaime Villarreal, and also signed forward Adonis Amaya to a new contract with the club. The signings are pending league and federation approval.

Amaya first signed with Galaxy II on March 19, 2015 and became the fourth LA Galaxy Academy player to sign a professional contract with Los Dos. Amaya had four goals and five assists in 22 appearances for the Galaxy II in the 2016 season, finishing tied with Jose Villarreal for the team-high in assists.

Turnley recorded four assists in his rookie season with the club, and logged almost 2,000 minutes of action in 23 appearances. Jaime Villarreal also notched four assists, and added a pair of goals, as he led the team with 2,206 minutes of action in his 27 appearances.

The following players also remain under contract with the Los Dos: Eric Lopez, Bennett Sneddon, Hugo Arellano, Nathan Smith, Adrian Vera, Ethan Zubak. Nine of the 10 players on the LA Galaxy II roster are products of the LA Galaxy Academy. The LA Galaxy also have Academy products Gyasi Zardes, Raul Mendiola, Bradford Jamieson IV, Jose Villarreal and Jack McBean on their MLS roster, giving LA 14 players across the Galaxy and Galaxy II rosters.

The Galaxy II will not exercise contract options on forward Kainoa Bailey, midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias, defender Lee Nishanian, midfielder Bryam Rebellon, and forward Denzel Slager.
