RENO, Nev. – USL newcomer Reno 1868 FC will play host to Sacramento Republic FC in a preseason exhibition on March 11 at Greater Nevada Field as both teams gear up for the new season. The contest will make the first time 1868 FC will face an opponent from the USL as it welcomes the side that finished top of the Western Conference standings in 2016.

“Republic FC has established itself as a perennial contender in the USL,” said 1868 FC Head Coach Ian Russell. “This game will undoubtedly prepare us for our inaugural season.”

Greater Nevada Field hosted Republic FC twice in the past year. The first contest marked Greater Nevada Field’s inaugural soccer match and showcased a friendly between Republic FC and Liverpool FC U21s. Republic FC played in Reno a second time against Real Monarchs SLC, which saw the first USL regular season game to be played at the venue.

“When we play Sacramento the stakes will always be elevated,” said Andy Smith, general manager of Reno 1868 FC. “This will be the first of many rivalry matches in the years to come.”
