Appeared in more than 100 games for Lyngby in Danish Superleague

OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Thursday the club had signed Danish midfielder Philip Rasmussen for the 2017 season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Rasmussen, a native of Copenhagen, has played the last four seasons with Lyngby in the Danish Superliga. During those four seasons, he appeared in 101 matches and started 89. He scored four goals in just over 7,800 minutes of play.

Prior to his stint with Lyngby, he played matches with Vestsjaelland, Viborg and Nordsjaelland in either the Danish Superliga or First Division. The eight-year pro has appeared in a total of 143 matches, and has logged nearly 10,000 minutes of play and scored nine goals.

“He will provide a good, physical presence in our midfield,” said Energy FC Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen. “He is technically and tactically on a very high level. He’s a typical box-to-box midfielder. He is aware of his defensive responsibilities and not afraid of joining the offensive attack. Coming from the Danish Superliga, the highest level in Danish soccer, I expect him to come with hunger and be a difference maker for our club.”

“I had some good conversations with Jimmy and also my former teammate Danni König. And after speaking with them there was no doubt,” said Rasmussen. ”It’s a big experience for me to live in a new country and play in a new league. My expectation for the 2017 season is to win a championship. So I can’t wait to meet all my new teammates, coaches and fans.”
