COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday the addition of Guam international Shane Malcolm as the club’s first new signing for the 2017 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

"I'm excited to be joining the Switchbacks this season," said Malcolm. "I've heard great things about the coaching staff and I am thrilled to work with and learn from them. I hope to contribute to the success of the team and bring an exciting season to the fans."

Malcolm is a Jamaican-born Guamanian who plays as an attacking midfielder for the Guam National Football Team. He qualifies to play for Guam through his paternal grandmother. Since joining the Guam National Team in 2014, Malcolm has 20 caps and two goals while competing alongside the likes of the Richmond Kickers' Alex Lee and the LA Galaxy's A.J. DeLaGarza.

Malcolm came to the United States when he was nine years old where he went on to play collegiate soccer for High Point University. He played 76 matches for the Panthers and was named to the Big South All-Conference Second Team in his senior year.

Malcolm also competed in the PDL, and helped the Carolina Dynamo reach the 2012 PDL Championship Game in addition to competing for Reading United AC the previous year. Malcolm most recently spent time with Rovers FC (Guam) before joining the Switchbacks via free agency.

"Shane got recommended to us by the Coach of Guam that Wolde and I played with on the Colorado Rapids [Darren Sawatzky]," said Switchbacks Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "He is an exciting attacking player that we have been looking for to replace players that we lost. He has a lot of experience playing internationally for Guam since 2014 and also playing club [competition] internationally. We are excited to have Shane being a big part of the Switchbacks in 2017."
