Saint Louis FC announced Thursday it has signed forward and former USL Most Valuable Player Jose Angulo, pending league and federation approval.
Angulo last spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, earning league MVP honors in 2013. Previously, he also spent the 2011 USL season with the Harrisburg City Islanders, tallying nine goals in 27 games.
“Jose is another player that we have added to our roster with a track record of scoring goals and creating chances,” said STLFC General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh. “His experience at all professional levels will bolster our attack in 2017. Fans and supporters will enjoy his presence in the attacking third and his willingness to work for the team on both sides of the ball.”
Angulo joined Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution straight out of high school in 2008. Angulo spent 2009 with the Newark Ironbound Express in the Premier Development League. In 2010, Angulo scored 10 goals in 11 appearances for the Central Jersey Spartans in the PDL.
After his 2011 stint with the City Islanders, Angulo returned to MLS with the New York Red Bulls in 2012. He then joined the Riverhounds in 2013, making 23 appearances and scoring 15 goals en route to being named the USL Most Valuable Player. Further accolades that season included the USL Golden Boot and USL All-League First Team.
Angulo spent 2015 and 2016 with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
Angulo was born in Cali, Colombia and grew up in Clifton, New Jersey where he played for the PDA Academy. He attended the prestigious Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School and was named to the Parade Magazine All-American Team two years in a row.
