OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Thursday it had re-signed midfielder Luis Martinez for the 2017 USL season. The signing is pending league and USSF approval.

Martinez returns for a second season with Energy FC. Last season, he appeared in 11 regular season games and recorded one assist. During the playoffs, a corner kick by Martinez was converted by Colin Bonner in stoppage time to give Energy FC a dramatic 3-2 win over Rio Grande Valley FC in the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs.

“I think Luis did well in his first season as a pro,” said Energy FC Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen. “He has a very professional attitude toward the game. Often, [he's] the first guy out on the field and the last guy to leave … he’s hungry and always wants to improve his game. He also brings creativity to the game that fits in to our style of play.”

The Jalisco, Mexico native has experience in many levels of the game. Martinez attended Chico State University from 2009-2013, earning All-CCAA Honors in 2012. After graduating in 2013, Luis played for San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) U23 squad before earning an invitation to play for Guanacasteca of the Costa Rican Second Division League in 2014. Then, in 2015, he returned to the U.S. to play with FC Tucson (PDL), and later signed with Energy FC.

"I'm extremely happy and blessed to be able to return to play for Energy FC," Martinez said. "This club is amazing from top to bottom and I can't wait to play in front our amazing fans.”
