ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City B announced on Thursday three additions to its defensive group, led by 2016 USL All-League selection Zach Carroll, formerly of the New York Red Bulls II. Also joining the club are Scott Thomsen and Fernando Timbó, with all three signings pending USL and federation approval.

Carroll appeared in 28 games at center back for the Red Bulls II as he helped the side claim both the 2016 USL Cup and Regular Season Championship. The 22-year-old was part of a defense that conceded the fewest goals in the USL in the 2016 regular season, while prior to joining the professional ranks he also helped the Michigan Bucks claim the 2014 PDL Championship.

“Zach joins us off the back of an outstanding rookie season with New York Red Bulls II,” said OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis. “He’s a great defender and we’re thrilled to have secured him.”

Thomsen scored one goal and notched one assist in nine appearances with the Richmond Kickers in 2016, his first professional season. A former member of the New York Red Bulls Academy, Thomsen helped the Red Bulls U23 reach the PDL Championship Game in 2015, and scored in the final as the side fell narrowly 4-3 to K-W United FC.

Collegiately, Thomsen enjoyed a successful four-year career at the University of Virginia, making 56 starts in 66 appearances and helping the Cavaliers capture the 2014 NCAA Championship.

“Scott is technically very gifted,” said Pulis. “He has a quality left foot and is tactically very astute.”

Timbó, whose full name is Fernando de Moraes Sanfelice, made 19 appearances for Ottawa Fury FC in 2016. Prior to that, the 26-year-old center back played for the Austin Aztex, where he was a teammate of current Orlando City SC players Tony Rocha and Mikey Ambrose. Timbó turned pro at age 16 with his hometown club Curitiba FC in Brazil.

“Fernando is a very commanding and strong center back who gives us much needed balance being naturally left sided,” said Pulis.
