FENTON, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced on Tuesday it has agreed to contracts with midfielder Octavio Guzman, defender Wesley Charpie, and midfielder Mats Bjurman, pending USL and United States Soccer Federation approval.

“These latest signings allow us to start putting the next pieces into play as we look to have much of the roster finalized by the end of the year,” stated STLFC General Manager, Jeremy Alumbaugh. “It has been a very productive month and we continue to have good discussions with prospective players.”

Guzman began his collegiate career at Chico State before signing for Sacramento Republic FC in 2014. Guzman made 26 appearances for the club in its inaugural season, and scored the opening goal as Republic FC claimed the 2014 USL Cup. The midfielder made 27 appearances this past season in Sacramento, recording a pair of goals as the side finished top of the USL Western Conference.

“Octavio has been a mainstay in the USL since the 2014 season,” said Alumbaugh. “He has Championship experience with Sacramento that will be valuable to us. He covers a lot of ground in the midfield and can also play in the back line. We see him adding to us in the central midfield.”

Charpie played collegiately for the University of South Florida, where he made 81 appearances and recorded five goals and 21 assists. In 2014, Charpie appeared in 16 matches and scored two goals for Reading United AC in the PDL, and was selected by Toronto FC in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft in the second round (29th overall). Charpie has played the past two season for Toronto FC II, making 43 appearances for the club.

“Wes is another versatile and steady defender,” said Alumbaugh. “He garnered a lot of minutes in Toronto the past two seasons and is experienced in the USL. He adds to us in the back line as he can play both wide and centrally. His decision making and mentality as a pro are qualities we really like.”

Bjurman played collegiately for UC Irvine, making 81 appearances and scoring five goals during his career. While at UC Irvine, Bjurman also played for PDL side Orange County Blues U-23, making 32 appearances and scoring two goals. During the 2016 season, Bjurman made his OC Blues first-team debut and logged 1,495 minutes with one goal and four assists for the club.

“Mats is a player that was on Preki's list when he arrived,” said Alumbaugh. “There is a quality to him in the attacking third that fits how we will play. He likes to come inside and get to goal, and he’s a very honest player with a big upside. Likewise, Mats is another player coming to us with playoff experience.”
