COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Tuesday it had re-signed defender Josh Phillips, pending league and federation approval. The signing will see Phillips return for his third season with the Switchbacks in 2017.

Phillips signed with the Switchbacks prior to their inaugural season in the USL, and has made 43 regular-season appearances for the club in the past two seasons. The center back suffered a setback this past season through injury, but returned to the side before the end of the regular season to help the Switchbacks finish third in the Western Conference for a second consecutive year.

Prior to joining the Switchbacks, Phillips competed in the PDL for FC Tucson. There he helped the side advance to the Western Conference Final in the 2014 PDL Playoffs after the side had taken the Mountain Division title. Phillips also competed for Gonzaga University collegiately, and in 2013 helped the Bulldogs to their first 10-win season since 2000 while also earning West Coast Conference Defender of the Year honors.

Phillips joins recent re-signings Josh Suggs and Jordan Burt as returnees to the Switchbacks’ defense for the club’s third season in the USL.
