Senior executives from across the league form new business sub-committee

The inaugural meeting of the USL Business Strategy Committee takes place on Thursday in Dallas, as 11 senior executives from the USL’s clubs meet with league leadership to help shape the future of the league in a newly created sub-committee that will focus on commercial and digital initiatives, national sponsorship, licensing and more.

The Business Strategy Committee will report directly to the USL Board of Governors, which is set to next convene at the USL Winter Summit in December. Given the league’s growth in recent years, the sub-committee will be tasked with building the league’s business off the field, following the launch of USL Productions earlier this year.

“The Business Strategy Committee will be a tremendous resource for the USL as we looking to maintain the league’s season-on-season growth,” said USL President Jake Edwards. “The executives who have been nominated to serve on the committee bring a wide range of ideas and experience that will be crucial to building the league’s commercial interests, which in turn will increase the league’s revenues and provide a strong, stable future for the USL as a whole.”

Eleven senior team executives are part of the subcommittee, including those from 2017 and 2018 expansion franchises in Reno 1868 FC President Eric Edelstein and Nashville SC CEO Court Jeske, who recently joined the club after serving as Vice President of International Business with Soccer United Marketing.

Also part of the committee are FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding and Sacramento Republic FC Executive Vice President Joe Wagoner, both of whom have been driving forces in the growth of their respective clubs and the league as a whole. Louisville City FC President Amanda Duffy and San Antonio FC Managing Director Tim Holt are also members of the group, bringing not only their experience as club executives, but also as former executives within the USL.

Saint Louis FC Executive Director Patrick Barry, Charlotte Independence Chief Operating Officer Mike Behrman, OKC Energy FC President Jeff Ewing, Tulsa Roughnecks FC General Manager Mike Melega and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 Managing Director Lisa Modica-Amore complete the group.

“We are very pleased with the level of experience that will serve to drive the league forward as we seek new avenues that will strengthen the league commercially, and provide wider visibility for our players and fans,” said Edwards.
