OTTAWA – The Canadian Soccer Association announced on Friday that Ottawa Fury FC forward Carl Haworth has been added to the Canada squad that will travel to face South Korea next Friday. It is Haworth’s first selection to the Canadian National Team.

“It’s a huge honour to be called up to the National Team,” said Haworth who is coming off a career year in Ottawa. “It has always been a goal of mine and I’m really excited that it’s become a reality. I would like to thank everyone at Ottawa Fury FC for helping me get to this point in my career.”

The news comes after a week to remember for Haworth. After being named Fury FC’s Player of the Year and Top Scorer on Monday, Haworth inked a new contract on Tuesday with the club as it prepares for its first season in the USL in 2017.

Haworth scored seven goals and added four assists to lead the club in scoring during the regular season. The Barrie, Ontario native finished the season with eight goals and six assists in all competitions.

“We’re so happy for Carl,” said Fury FC head coach Paul Dalglish. “Carl’s work ethic and commitment to the game has earned him this opportunity and we look forward to seeing another Fury FC player in the CANMNT.”

Fury FC’s leading scorer will see some familiar faces in the squad in Korea as teammates and local products Jamar Dixon (Ottawa) and Maxim Tissot (Gatineau) were also called to the CANMNT for this fixture earlier in the week.

Haworth last featured for Canada in 2012 as part of the CanM23 squad for their Olympic Qualifying Tournament where he made three appearances.

The Korea Republic v Canada match is Friday, November 11 in Cheonan. It will be the first match between the two nations since 2002. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. local and will be broadcast on CanadaSoccer.com live at 7 a.m. ET / 4 a.m. PT.
