September 7, 2016 – Pucillo Field

With the side on a six-game winning streak that included victories against their closest rivals, Louisville City FC and FC Cincinnati, in back-to-back weekends, the New York Red Bulls II moved within reach of the USL Regular Season Championship as they headed to Pennsylvania to meet the Harrisburg City Islanders at Pucillo Field.

Thanks to a pair of goals apiece by Vincent Bezecourt and Noah Powder, the Red Bulls II claimed a 4-1 win against their regional rival, and earned the first silverware in the club’s short history.

Bezecourt had played a part in the Red Bulls II’s previous victory against Harrisburg on Aug. 2, as he notched two late goals after coming off the bench with 18 minutes to go. In the final meeting of the season between the clubs, he got the start, and opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a low finish from the right side of the penalty area off a pass from Stefano Bonomo.

Harrisburg struck quickly to get even inside the opening minute of the second half when Cardel Benbow and Craig Foster played a nifty one-two at the top of the penalty area to allow Benbow to finish, but the Red Bulls II restored their lead in the 62nd minute as Noah Powder scored his first professional goal off a through-ball by Bezecourt.

Bezecourt added his second of the game as he broke onto a pass by fellow Frenchman Florian Valot into the left side of the penalty area, and after cutting past a tracking defender shot into the right side of the net. Powder then finished the scoring with a flourish, as his volleyed finish to the top-left corner of the net capped another outstanding offensive display for the side.

Four days later, the Red Bulls II were presented the shield in front of more than 20,000 fans at Red Bull Arena, and took in their praise from the South Ward.
