KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Swope Park Rangers forward Nansel Selbol is suspended for this Sunday’s 2016 USL Cup Final, Presented by Nike, but he likely made up for that disappointment on Wednesday night as his first goal for Sporting Kansas City proved the game-winner in a 3-1 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League victory against Central FC at Children’s Mercy Sporting Park.

SKC brought up four players from the Rangers on loan for the contest, as Tomas Granitto and Alex Molano both started alongside Selbol to make their first appearances for the club’s MLS side. The Trinidad & Tobago outfit opened the scoring, however, as Jem Gordon scored in the 43rd minute to give the visitors the halftime lead.

Granitto played a role in the equalizer, which arrived four minutes into the second half through Cameron Porter. Granitto’s chipped pass from midfield found Porter cutting into the penalty area, and Porter clipped home a good finish into the left corner of the net.

Six minutes later Selbol gave the hosts the lead. After receiving a pass from Connor Hallisey 20 yards out at the top of the penalty area, Selbol cut centrally onto his right foot and sent a low shot into the right corner of the net.

Selbol almost added a second when his volleyed finish off a cross by Ever Alvarado was tipped onto the post by Central FC goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, but Hallisey added a third from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time to wrap up the win.
