PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti – New York Red Bulls II midfielder Derrick Etienne Jr. has been named in Haiti’s squad for the final stage of Caribbean Cup Qualifying, as the side faces French Guinea and Saint Kitts and Nevis for qualification to the 2017 Caribbean Cup, and automatic entry to the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Etienne is joined in the squad by San Antonio FC midfielder Sebastien Thuriere, who maintains his presence in the squad after his selection for World Cup Qualifying in September.

The No. 3 selection in the USL 20 Under 20 series, Etienne has had a standout rookie season after signing with the Red Bulls as a Homegrown Player this past offseason. Etienne recorded five goals and six assists for the Red Bulls II as the side claimed the USL Regular Season Championship, and also made his debut in Major League Soccer against D.C. United on Sept. 11.

Due to his selection, Etienne will miss the Red Bulls II’s Eastern Conference Semifinal this Friday night as the side takes on the Rochester Rhinos at Red Bull Arena.

Thuriere has made 15 previous appearances for Haiti, and had a good first season for San Antonio FC after joining the club in the offseason from the Charleston Battery. Thuriere made 22 appearances for SAFC and recorded one goal and one assist in his first season for the club.

Haiti will host French Guinea on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to open group play, and then visit St. Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, Oct. 11 as it looks to earn a third consecutive berth at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
