COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mike Seth scored a pair of goals to lead Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to a 3-0 victory against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday night at Switchbacks Stadium. The Switchbacks’ Saeed Robinson and Seth almost combined to open the scoring in the eighth minute as Seth’s header went over the crossbar, but two minutes later the powerful forward made no mistake to make it 1-0. LA’s Adonis Amaya almost equalized in the 19th minute, only to send his shot over the crossbar, and both sides had chances go just wide off set pieces as the half went on in front of an energized crowd. Colorado Springs doubled its lead in first-half stoppage time, however, as Seth rose to head home a corner by Luke Vercollone. The Switchbacks captain added a third just before the hour-mark as he put home cross by Jordan Burt, and while the Galaxy II tried to get back into the game in the final half-hour, they were unable to cut into the Switchbacks’ lead as Colorado Springs took an impressive victory.

Scoring:
10’ – COS – Mike Seth (Saeed Robinson)
45+’ – COS – Mike Seth (Luke Vercollone)
58’ – COS – Luke Vercollone (Jordan Burt)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Following last Saturday’s loss in South Texas, a victory was essential for the Switchbacks against the Galaxy II if they were to have a chance at a top-four finish in the Western Conference. Thanks to one of their most confident looking performances of the season, they accomplished the win in style as Mike Seth scored on a pair of good headers, and Luke Vercollone notched a goal and assist. Colorado Springs still faces a challenge to get to its goal with three games to go, but should take confidence from its performance tonight as it heads to Vancouver next weekend.

  • 2. Mike Seth has been one of the more well-rounded forwards in the league this season with as many assists as goals thanks to his good hold-up play. On Saturday night his ability in the air came to the fore, however, as he moved into a tie for the team-lead with his sixth and seventh goals of the season. After relying on Luke Vercollone and Miguel Gonzalez for goals a season ago, the emergence of players like Seth this year has been a welcome sight for Switchbacks fans.

  • 3. The Galaxy II wasn’t quite able to follow up its victory on Wednesday night against Arizona as it tried to emulate its late-season victory in Colorado Springs a season ago. The galaxy II still appear well set to reach the playoffs, however, and after last season’s heroics on the way to a Western Conference Championship will not carry any fear into the postseason if they’re asked to be road warriors again.
