Seattle looks for sweep of home-and-home series as it heads north of the border

LANGLEY, B.C. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 will look for a sweep of its home-and-home series with Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Monday afternoon as the teams square off at McLeod Athletic Park in the final meeting of the season between the Cascadia rivals. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 11-7-8, 41pts
  • Vancouver took the lead on Friday night in the first game of the home-and-home series at Starfire Stadium as Kyle Greig scored his 11th goal of the season.
  • Greig’s goal broke an 11-game scoring drought for the forward, whose last goal had come at the same venue on June 9.
  • Vancouver remains three points behind Sacramento Republic FC for first place in the Western Conference going into Saturday’s action, but now no longer has a game in hand on the conference leader.
  • WFC2 has struggled since the start of August, going only 1-3-2 over that span.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-11-6, 33pts
  • Seattle rallied to take a 2-1 victory on Friday night as Darwin Jones scored in the third minute of stoppage time to lift his side to victory.
  • Jones’ goal was his team-leading sixth of the season, with all six having come since he opened his account for the season on July 10 against Colorado Springs.
  • The win was S2’s second in a row that arrived via a late winner after Jordan Schweitzer’s 88th-minute goal earned a 2-1 win against Portland last Monday night.
  • Seattle is now a point behind Orange County Blues FC with four games to play in the regular season as the side looks for a second consecutive trip to the playoffs.
