Hammerheads head north looking for victory against red-hot Montreal

MONTREAL – FC Montreal plays host to Wilmington Hammerheads FC on Wednesday evening at the Complexe Sportif Claude Robillard with the hosts sitting on a four-game winning streak, and the Hammerheads needing victory to jumpstart their playoff hopes. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

FC Montreal news and notes

  • Current record: 6-18-1, 19pts
  • Montreal took a 4-3 victory against Toronto FC II on Sunday afternoon in the final I-401 Derby of the season as Heikel Jarras’ late goal proved the winner.
  • FCMTL has now won four consecutive games for the first time in its history, after recording a pair of three-game winning streaks a season ago.
  • Anthony Jackson-Hamel scored his seventh goal in 10 appearances this season for Montreal in the win against Toronto.
  • Montreal remains mathematically alive in the race for the USL Playoffs, but would be eliminated with a victory for the Hammerheads on Wednesday.

Wilmington Hammerheads FC news and notes

  • Current record: 6-11-8, 26pts
  • The Hammerheads played to a 2-2 draw with the Rochester Rhinos in their last outing, as a late equalizer by Rochester’s Wal Fall denied Wilmington victory.
  • Justin Moose and Bruno Perone both gave the Hammerheads the lead against Rochester, with Perone’s stoppage-time goal appearing to have given the hosts victory before the Rhinos’ dramatic reply.
  • Wilmington is now winless in its last nine games (0-6-3). The side now sits six points behind eighth-place Orlando with five games remaining in the season.
  • The Hammerheads close the season with three of their final four games on home turf, including what could be a pivotal clash with Orlando on Sept. 7.
