Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Energy FC dominated the Black Gold Derby in 2016, winning all four contests by a combined score of 8-0. Saturday’s meeting was no different than the other three on the season, as Energy FC created multiple goal-scoring opportunities during the 90 minutes of action. Thomas, Wojcik, Kalen Ryden and Coady Andrews all put good shots on frame or off a post in the first half of action. Timo Pitter had a great opportunity to increase the lead in the 81st minute, but his shot fizzed wide of the right post.

  • 2. While the Roughnecks are the first team to be mathematically eliminated from USL Playoffs contention, Jake Feener had an incredible first half in goal for the club. The netminder, earning his ninth start of the season, made key save after key save. Feener’s best stop came in the 16th minute, diving to his right to stop a low blast by Energy FC’s Thomas. In the 40th minute, Feener made another spectacular save, pushing Energy FC defender Kalen Ryden’s header off the left post.

  • 3. Wojcik separated himself from the Energy FC scoring pack on Saturday, scoring his fourth goal of the regular season – now a team-high. The forward was active in the first 45 minutes, helping create a chance in the 40th minute before scoring the winner moments later. His persistence and goal capped off a dominant showing during the first half for Energy FC.
