MONTREAL – FC Montreal goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau has been named to Canada’s squad for the country’s upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers against Honduras and El Salvador, as the team looks to advance to the final stage of World Cup Qualifying for the first time this century.

Crepeau has made 28 appearances for Montreal over the past two seasons in the USL, recording 111 saves in those appearances. Crepeau has been a fixture in the Canadian National Team program coming through the youth ranks, and started all five games for the country’s U23 team at Olympic qualifying earlier this year.

Crepeau made his first full international appearance in an exhibition against the United States this past February, as he recorded seven saves in a 1-0 defeat that came through a late goal by U.S. forward Jozy Altidore.

Canada currently sits third in Group A of the penultimate stage of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, tied on points with Honduras ahead of their contest on Friday, Sept. 2 at Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula. The side will close qualifying against El Salvador, and potentially Saint Louis FC forward Irvin Herrera, at B.C. Place in Vancouver on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The top  two teams in the group advance, with Mexico already having booked its place in the final qualifying round.

Crepeau’s selection for the full national team comes a day after his FC Montreal teammates Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla and Thomas Meilleur-Giguere earned selection for the Canada U20 Team that will play a pair of exhibitions on Sept. 1 and Sept. 3 against Costa Rica.
