Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2’s Kadin Chung, FC Montreal’s Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla and Toronto FC II’s Luca Uccello highlight a number of USL players named on Wednesday to the Canada U20 National Team squad that will visit Costa Rica for a pair of games on Sept. 1 and 3 as the group prepares for CONCACAF U20 World Cup Qualifying next February.

Six players in the squad have competed in the USL this season, with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Duwayne Ewart, Toronto FC II’s Liam Fraser and FC Montreal’s Thomas Meilleur-Giguere also named to the squad.

Chung was recently named No. 18 in the USL 20 Under 20 series, as one of the top young players in the USL this season. Chung has been a regular selection for the Canada U20s, standing alongside Ewart and Tabla as the three most experienced players in the squad. The 17-year-old has recorded two assists in 16 appearances in the USL this season, and is sixth on the team with 1,331 minutes of action.

Tabla has been one of the brightest players for Montreal this season, and was named the USL Player of the Week for Week 21 of the regular season. This season he has recorded five goals and four assists in 19 appearances, and sits fifth on the team with 1,533 minutes of action. Meilleur-Giguere, meanwhile, sits fourth on the team in minutes with 1,596 minutes of action, and has scored once this season in 18 appearances.

Uccello has made 39 appearances for Toronto FC II since the start of the 2015 USL season, and has recorded four goals and two assists in that span. Fraser, his teammate with TFC II, has notched a pair of goals in 20 appearances in his first professional season.

Canada’s camp will start in Toronto before the group heads to San José, Costa Rica on next Tuesday, August 30. Canada will then face Costa Rica in a pair of Men's U20 International Friendly matches. The camp and matches were originally scheduled for May, but were postponed after a volcano eruption forced flight restrictions to Costa Rica.
