Steel’s Burke, Hammerheads’ Binns Selected by Jamaica

Join Saint Louis’ Thompson in squad for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers

Bethlehem Steel FC’s Cory Burke and Wilmington Hammerheads FC’s Michael Binns have been named to the Jamaica squad for the country’s upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying contests against Panama and Haiti.

Burke and Binns join Saint Louis FC goalkeeper Ryan Thompson in being named to the squad. Jamaica will face Panama on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, and Haiti at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica in its final two games of the penultimate stage of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Burke has scored four goals and added one assist in 16 appearances for the Steel this season after arriving on loan from Rivoli United. Burke could make his first senior appearance for the Reggae Boyz in the upcoming two contests.

Binns has scored one goal and added one assist in five appearances since joining the Hammerheads in midseason. Binns scored his first goal for Wilmington this past Saturday in a 1-1 draw with the Charleston Battery, and has made four previous appearances for the Reggae Boyz.

Also included in the squad is midfielder Omar Holness, who has made seven appearances for Real Monarchs SLC this season, and defender Alvas Powell, who previously spent time on loan with Sacramento Republic FC from the Portland Timbers during the 2014 USL season.
