Republic FC heads to Orange County looking for sole possession of first in West

IRVINE, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC will look to move into sole possession of first place in the Western Conference as it visits an Orange County Blues FC side aiming to bolster its playoff position on Wednesday night at Anteater Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

  • Current record: 10-11-4, 34pts
  • The Blues solidified their position in the top eight of the USL Western Conference with a 2-0 win against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday night at Anteater Stadium.
  • Orange County got goals from Richard Chaplow and Mats Bjurman as they claimed the season series in the I-405 Derby for the first time in its history.
  • The Blues have alternated wins and losses in their last five contests, going 3-2-0 since a 2-1 victory against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Aug. 4.
  • Orange County has allowed 37 goals this season, tied for third-highest in the Western Conference.

  • Republic FC is coming off a 4-0 victory against the Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday night that moved the side to the top of the USL Western Conference.
  • San Jose Earthquakes loanee Tommy Thompson had a goal and assist in the victory, while Cameron Iwasa, Mike Da Fonte and Wilson Kneeshaw also found the net.
  • The four-goal game was Republic FC’s second in succession after a 4-3 victory against Saint Louis FC on Aug. 13.
  • Danny Barrera recorded his eight assist of the season against Portland, and remains the league-leader in that category.
