HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls offered a strong display of support for New York Red Bulls II defender Konrad Plewa on Sunday, after the center back suffered a stroke following the Red Bulls II’s game against the Richmond Kickers on July 30.

The Red Bulls wore t-shirts with the motto “Two Teams, One Voice” as they came onto the field for Sunday’s game against the LA Galaxy, which was aired nationally by FOX Sports 1. The display brought the incident with Plewa to light, as Red Bulls Coach Jesse Marsch provided an update following the game.

“At 11 o’clock in the morning on Sunday morning, he started losing feeling in his arm and part of his face,” Marsch said. “And so he had to be rushed to the hospital and they found that he had a stroke. They went in and cleared the blockage and it seems like he’s recovering in a really good way.”

Plewa has been a key player for the Red Bulls II in his first season for the club. A former member of the Red Bulls U23 in the PDL, Plewa has made 18 appearances for the Red Bulls II this season, and currently sits fourth in minutes played with 1,371.

With numerous players having seen action for both the Red Bulls and the Red Bulls II this season, the connection between the two sides has been strong throughout the year. Marsch said he was proud of the senior player’s decision.

“It was awesome man,” Marsch said. “It was awesome that the guys were wearing that shirt.”
