LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC was held to a 1-1 draw by the Harrisburg City Islanders in front of 5,563 fans at Slugger Field on Wednesday night. Both teams pressed early, but the City Islanders went close in the 10th minute when Bobby Warshaw hit the crossbar, and Dante Leverock’s rebound effort was saved by Louisville goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh. The visitors took the lead 11 minutes later, however, when Jose Barril curled home a fine finish into the right corner of the net. Louisville’s Cameron Lancaster shot just wide before the halftime break, but Paolo DelPiccolo tied the game 11 minutes into the second half after City Islanders goalkeeper Keasel Broome had tipped a free kick by Lancaster onto the crossbar, only for DelPiccolo to turn home the rebound. Louisville continued to control the game in the final half-hour, but was unable to find a breakthrough as the City Islanders held on.

Scoring:
21’ – HAR – Jose Barril
56’ – LOU – Paolo DelPiccolo (Cameron Lancaster)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. After needing to come back from a halftime deficit to take victory in its last outing, Louisville was unable to turn the trick a second consecutive time as the door opened wide for the New York Red Bulls II to claim top spot in the Eastern Conference with a win against Orlando City B on Friday night. Louisville dominated the second half, but was unable to find more late heroics, as it was forced to settle for a draw on home turf.

  • 2. In contrast to the defeat they suffered last time out to the New York Red Bulls II, the City Islanders put in an entertaining and diligent performance on Wednesday night, and deserved to take the lead midway through the first half. Louisville maybe got a little too cute for its own good in its own penalty area, leading to the chance, but midfielder Jose Barril’s finish was first class, and gave him his fifth goal of the season to go with his five assists.

  • 3. It took some time for the hosts to get going, but once they did, it was all hands to the pump for the City Islanders as they battled to try and earn a result. Cameron Lancaster – getting the start ahead of Chandler Hoffman, likely rested ahead of Saturday’s game with Rochester – proved the biggest threat for Louisville, and it was his excellent free kick that got the side back into the game as Keasel Broome could only tip his shot onto the crossbar, allowing Paolo DelPiccolo to clean up the rebound. In the end, though, City’s late chances didn’t bring a winner, bringing Saturday’s game with Rochester into even sharper focus.
