IRVINE, Calif. – Trinidad & Tobago international Trevin Caesar recorded a pair of goals to lead Orange County Blues FC to a 2-0 victory against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday night at Anteater Stadium. Orange County took the lead in the 18th minute when Caesar scored his fifth goal of the season as he got in behind the Galaxy II defense before rounding Dan Kennedy and finishing. The Galaxy II had more possession, but couldn’t find a way to take advantage in the final third. Caesar, though, was able to take advantage of his chances, and on the hour-mark made it 2-0 as he stole possession, drove into the right side of the penalty area and fired a low shot inside the right upright. Los Dos tried to get back into the game, but the Blues held on to earn a big win in their pursuit of the playoffs.

Scoring:
18’ – OC – Trevin Caesar (Christopher Santana)
60’ – OC -  Trevin Caesar

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Looking to return to the playoffs for a second consecutive season, finding a way to win any way it could was imperative for Orange County. While Saturday night’s overall performance wasn’t necessarily one of the most free-flowing play, the Blues managed to not only hold the Galaxy II’s potent attack off the board, and take their chances well when they arrived to remain well in contention for the playoffs even after teams above them took points earlier in the night.

  • 2. If the Blues are to find a way into the top eight, they’ll definitely need Trevin Caesar to keep up his recent run of form that has seen him score five goals in his past five games. The Trinidad & Tobago international showed great composure with both of his finishes on Saturday night to beat Dan Kennedy, with his low finish that just snuck in at the right post a top-quality strike that provided a big insurance goal for the hosts.

  • 3. The Galaxy II missed out on the chance to move back to the top of the Western Conference on Saturday night after Vancouver’s draw on Friday night, but with none of the other teams in the top six able to take more than a point in the weekend’s action, the Galaxy II will get ready for next Saturday’s game with Portland aiming to rebound from being held scoreless for only the third time this season.
