The LA Galaxy II’s Hugo Arellano, pictured, and Bethlehem Steel FC’s Auston Trusty both put in strong performances as the United States U19 National Team took a 1-0 victory against hosts Spain on Friday night at the 2016 COTIF Tournament in Valencia.

The victory was the second in a row for the U.S., which would advance to the semifinals of the tournament with a victory in its final group game on Monday.

Arellano, who recently signed professionally with the Galaxy II after having previously played for the side as an Academy signing, and Trusty, who has made 12 appearances as an Academy signing for the Steel this season, both showed well to hold the Spanish side at bay, as the team grew in confidence as the game went on.

Six minutes into the second half, the U.S. took the lead when Xolos Tijuana forward Brandon Vazquez fired home a free kick from 30 yards that left the Spanish goalkeeper helpless. From there, the defense took over, with Trusty and Arellano snuffing out opportunities as Spain looked to find an equalizer.

Orlando City B’s Pierre Da Silva – who earlier this week was named No.15 in the inaugural USL 20 Under 20 – also started for the U.S., being substituted with 10 minutes to go as the U.S. looked to preserve its victory.

The U.S. now sits third in Group A, level on points with Spain and trailing Venezuela by a point. With Spain and Venezuela set to meet on Sunday in the final game of the group stage for both teams, however, the U.S. is guaranteed a place in the semifinals with a win against Bahrain.
