Third-place Cincinnati host fourth-place Charleston in key playoff clash

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati and the Charleston Battery will both try to build on big wins a weekend ago as they meet at Nippert Stadium separated by only two points in the top four of the USL’s Eastern Conference standings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

FC Cincinnati news and notes

  • Current record: 11-4-4, 37pts
  • Cincinnati took a 2-0 victory last Saturday against first-place Louisville City FC to claim the River Cities Cup in the inaugural season series between the teams.
  • Sean Okoli and Andrew Wiedeman scored for Cincinnati as it rebounded from a midweek defeat to the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday night.
  • Okoli leads Cincinnati with nine goals this season, which has him tied for fifth in the USL alongside Tulsa Roughnecks FC’s Sammy Ochoa.
  • Cincinnati’s crowd of 20,151 against Louisville was the third time this season the side had welcomed more than 20,000 fans for a USL regular-season contest.

Charleston Battery news and notes

  • Current record: 10-4-5, 35 points
  • The Battery broke the New York Red Bulls II’s 12-game undefeated streak with a 3-2 victory last Saturday at Red Bull Park.
  • Charleston took a two-goal halftime lead behind goals from Maikel Chang and Romario Williams, but after New York rallied Heviel Cordoves’ goal proved the winner.
  • Chang – who had a goal and assist – and O’Brian Woodbine were named to the USL Team of the Week, after Woodbine recorded a pair of assists in the game.
  • Charleston has won four of its past five games on the road, and sits two points back of Cincinnati in the conference standings.
