Two of the top three teams in the West meet in marquee Friday night clash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC welcomes Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 to Switchbacks Stadium on Friday night in one of the marquee games of Week 19 in the USL regular season, as two of the top three teams in the Western Conference square off. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 9-6-4, 31pts
  • The Switchbacks’ run of up-and-down form took another downturn in their last outing as they fell 2-1 on the road against Saint Louis FC last Saturday.
  • Martin Maybin scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the contest early in the second half, but Colorado Springs was unable to overcome a two-goal halftime deficit.
  • The Switchbacks have gone 6-1-2 this season on home turf, while conceding only three goals.
  • Goalkeeper Devala Gorrick is second in the USL in both goals-against average (0.74) and save percentage (.806).

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 10-4-5, 35 points
  • WFC2 remained on top of the Western Conference last Sunday as a stoppage-time goal by Thomas Sanner earned a 2-1 victory against Sacramento Republic FC,
  • Sanner’s goal was his first as a professional, and saw him earn a place on the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday.
  • WFC2’s 17-year-old fullback Kadin Chung was named as the No. 18 player in the USL’s 20 Under 20 series on Wednesday.
  • Vancouver’s 32 goals this season put it in a tie for third in the league alongside the New York Red Bulls II.
