Cascadia clash sees Seattle on upswing, and Portland sliding in recent weeks

TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 and the Portland Timbers 2 will meet for the latest edition in the Cascadia rivalry on Sunday night at Starfire Stadium with S2 aiming to build on a two-game winning streak, and T2 looking to arrest a recent dip in form. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 5-9-5, 20pts
  • S2 earned its second two-game winning streak of the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Arizona United SC last Saturday at the Peoria Sports Complex.
  • Darwin Jones scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and was named to the USL Team of the Week for his efforts.
  • Myron Samuel recorded his team-leading fourth assist in the victory, which moved S2 within three points of the playoff positions with 11 games to play.
  • S2 goalkeeper Tyler Miller has posted a .762 save percentage in his eight appearances for the side this season.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 5-10-3, 18 points
  • Portland’s winless streak reached six games last Saturday as it fell 4-1 to the LA Galaxy II at Merlo Field.
  • The defeat was only the second time in T2’s history it had conceded four goals, with the first a 4-3 loss to OKC Energy FC last season.
  • T2 has dropped into 14th place in the Western Conference with its recent drop in form, but is still only five points out of a playoff position with 12 games remaining.
  • Portland’s attack has scored only four goals during its six-game winless streak. It’s last multi-goal game came in a 2-1 win against Swope Park Rangers on June 4.
