Eastern Conference playoff contenders meet on Sunday night in pivotal clash

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Orlando City B and Wilmington Hammerheads FC face a pivotal clash on Sunday evening as they both look to boost their hopes of a place in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, sitting a point apart in the conference standings. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Orlando City B news and notes

  • Current record: 6-6-6, 24pts
  • Orlando is coming off a 0-0 draw with the Charleston Battery on July 13, and enters the weekend in seventh place in the conference standings.
  • OCB is on a six-game undefeated streak, but has drawn each of its past three games during that run.
  • Orlando’s Tyler Turner will be part of the MLS Chipotle Homegrown Game on Wednesday night at Avaya Stadium in San Jose.
  • Pierre Da Silva, who leads the team in assists, will likely be unavailable after being named to the U.S. U19 Team that will compete in the COTIF Tournament in Valencia, Spain that begins next week.

Wilmington Hammerheads FC news and notes

  • Current record: 6-7-5, 23 points
  • Wilmington fell 4-1 last Sunday night to Louisville City FC, as a late goal by Bruno Perone was little more than a consolation at Legion Stadium.
  • The Hammerheads have now suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season, after back-to-back wins had put them in the Eastern Conference top eight.
  • Wilmington announced on Saturday the signing of Jamaican international Michael Binns, who recently played in the Copa America Centenario for his country.
  • The Hammerheads will play three of their next four games on the road, with a home game against Pittsburgh followed by visits to Rochester and Charlotte.
