WFC2 looks to bounce back from tough trip in top-four Western clash

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 and Sacramento Republic FC square off in a top-four Western Conference clash on Sunday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium with both teams looking to turn around recent dips in form. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-4-5, 32pts
  • WFC2 is coming off back-to-back defeats last week in Texas, where it fell to Rio Grande Valley FC and San Antonio FC.
  • Vancouver has suffered back-to-back defeats twice this season, which accounts for its four defeats so far this season.
  • WFC2 remains on top of the Western Conference entering this weekend’s games on total wins over the LA Galaxy II in a tight race for first place in the standings.
  • Vancouver will face another big test in its next contest as it visits Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC next Friday at Switchbacks Stadium.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Sacramento is on a three-game winless streak following a 1-0 defeat to Colorado Springs last Saturday night at Switchbacks Stadium.
  • The defeat brought to an end Danny Barrera’s five-game assists streak, as Republic FC only recorded three shots on goal.
  • Sunday’s game marks the midway point of a five-game road trip for Republic FC, which will also visit Rio Grande Valley and OKC Energy FC before returning to Bonney Field.
  • This is Sacramento’s second three-game winless streak this season. Republic FC recorded back-to-back wins to break the previous one, which sparked a nine-game undefeated streak through May and June.
