RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers announced on Friday the signing of former New York Red Bulls U23 midfielder/defender Scott Thomsen for the remainder of the 2016 season.  Thomsen will be available for selection when the Kickers host Toronto FC II on Saturday night at City Stadium.

Thomsen was signed by New York Red Bulls as a Homegrown Player last December after having played in both the club’s academy, and for the Red Bulls U23 in the PDL. Thomsen made eight appearances for the Red Bulls U23 as they reached the PDL Championship Game before falling to K-W United FC.

Thomsen also had a standout collegiate career at the University of Virginia, where he helped the Cavaliers claim the 2014 NCAA Championship. Thomsen started 56 of 66 matches in his career for Virginia and was a two-time ACC All-Academic Team honoree.  One of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, he led the team in assists during his freshman and junior years, finishing with three goals and 18 assists over four seasons.

The Kickers (7-6-5, 26pts) return to regular season action this Saturday night when they host Toronto FC II (5-11-5, 20pts) at City Stadium.
