Hat trick led Red Bulls II to victory on road against Montreal

TAMPA, Fla. – New York Red Bulls II forward Brandon Allen has been voted the USL Player of the Week for the 16th week of the 2016 season after leading his side to a 4-2 victory against FC Montreal on Saturday afternoon. Allen’s hat trick powered the Red Bulls II who extended their undefeated streak to 10 games.

Allen received 41 percent of the poll conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL market. Sacramento Republic FC’s Danny Barrera finished second with 24 percent.

GK – Eric Ati, Wilmington Hammerheads FC: Ati made a number of game-saving stops as the Hammerheads took a 2-1 win on the road against Charlotte.

D – Iarfhlaith Davoren, Tulsa Roughnecks FC: Davoren marshalled Tulsa’s defense as it recorded a shutout in a scoreless draw on the road against Rio Grande Valley FC.

D – Daniel Antunez, Arizona United SC: Antunez put in a solid performance as United held Swope Park to two shots on goal, including one from a penalty kick, in a 1-1 draw.

D – Greg Cochrane, San Antonio FC: Cochrane was solid throughout as San Antonio played to a 0-0 draw with OKC Energy FC.

M – Mike Garzi, Rochester Rhinos: Garzi scored the opening goal as the Rhinos took a big 2-1 win against FC Cincinnati last Wednesday night.

M – Danny Barrera, Sacramento Republic FC: Barrera had a standout week with a goal and three assists, and now leads the USL with six assists total.

M – Ricardo Velazco, Real Monarchs SLC: Velazco’s goal and assist led the Monarchs to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against Sacramento at Bonney Field.

M – Didier Crettenand, Orange County Blues FC: Crettenand scored twice for the Blues as they played to a 3-3 draw on Sunday against Sacramento.

F – Brandon Allen, New York Red Bulls II: Allen’s hat trick powered the Red Bulls II to a victory in Montreal, and set a new single-season record for goals for the Red Bulls II with eight this season.

F – Omar Cummings, FC Cincinnati: Cummings had a goal and assist as Cincinnati took a 2-1 victory on the road against Saint Louis FC on Saturday night.

F – Ayomide Akinola, Toronto FC II: Akinola scored his first two professional goals to lead Toronto to a 4-2 victory against Harrisburg on Sunday evening.
