TULSA, Okla. – San Antonio FC’s Michael Reed and Franck Tayou tallied second-half goals as SAFC earned a 2-1 road victory against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Sunday at ONEOK Field. It marked the team’s second road win of the season and first since San Antonio’s USL-opening victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 on April 3 at Starfire Stadium. Tulsa sub Jasson Ramos Carpio notched a rebound in the early stages of second-half stoppage time to cut the SAFC lead to one, but that was as close as Tulsa would get. Sunday’s kickoff was delayed by a little more than an hour because of lightning. With the win, San Antonio improves to 5-5-5 (20 points) overall and 2-3-3 on the road. Tulsa, which remains in last place in the Western Conference, drops to 3-11-2 (11 points) and 2-6-1 at home. San Antonio also improves to 2-0-0 against the Roughnecks this season, having posted a 3-1 victory against Tulsa on April 30 at Toyota Field. They will meet one more time on Sept. 17 in San Antonio.

Scoring:
56’ – SA – Michael Reed (Rafa Castillo)
80’ – SA – Franck Tayou (Carlos Alvarez)
90’+ – TUL – Jasson Ramos Carpio

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. After a scoreless opening half, with San Antonio holding the edge in scoring chances against Tulsa goalkeeper Alex Mangels, broke through in the 56th minute on a set piece opportunity. Rafa Castillo’s left-footed delivery from the right side was driven into a dangerous spot in the middle of the box, and the Roughnecks’ defense struggled to maintain their marks in that sequence. Michael Reed broke free and had an open header, whipping the ball into the left of the frame for a 1-0 lead. It was Reed’s second goal of the campaign. Then in the 80th minute, halftime sub Franck Tayou found the score sheet. After Tulsa gave up the ball around midfield, Carlos Alvarez provided a nice through ball to Tayou, who fired a left-footed, top-shelf shot to grab a two-goal advantage.

  • 2. Tulsa’s defense has now allowed two or more goals in eight consecutive matches, conceding 24 goals during this stretch. Defensive numbers aside, the big question heading into the upcoming week is who will step up offensively after this match. Sammy Ochoa, who leads the Roughnecks with eight goals and five assists, picked up his fifth caution of the season and will now be out for the July 10 game against Rio Grande Valley FC, serving a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation.

  • 3. The Roughnecks capped off a two-game weekend over a three-day stretch, coming off a 3-2 win against Arizona United SC on Friday in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3. Twice this season Tulsa’s schedule includes two games in a three-day stretch. The other occasion will be when the Roughnecks host Orange County Blues FC and the Swope Park Rangers on Aug. 4 and 6, respectively.
