OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC and Rio Grande Valley FC have their share of attacking options, but the Western Conference sides could not find a tally in the offensive third during Saturday’s scoreless draw at Taft Stadium. Energy FC forward Danni Konig attempted two penalty kick opportunities in the second half, but one was saved by RGV goalkeeper Callum Irving and the other went over the crossbar. With the draw, OKC moves to 5-2-6 (21 points) and RGV is now 6-5-7 (24 points) as the Toros are winless in four consecutive matches (0-2-2).

Three Things That Mattered:

• 1. OKC had two prime opportunities in the second half to grab a goal as RGV committed two penalties in the second half. In the 71st minute, Toros captain Kevin Garcia was sent off when he bumped Sebastian Dalgaard as the last defender. Konig took the subsequent PK in the 72nd minute, firing a right-footed shot toward the left of the frame and RGV goalkeeper Callum Irving read it perfectly with a diving save. Then a couple minutes later, OKC drew yet another PKC. Konig attempted to redeem himself with a fairly quickly taken attempt, but he skied it over the crossbar.

• 2. Konig continues to endure a trying second season in the USL in the scoring department. The runner-up in last year’s Golden Boot race was expected to be in the running once again. The assuring thing for OKC fans, if there is a positive to be taken from his scoring drought and a forgettable second half, is that he continues to pressure opposing teams and conjure chances. Within the first 10 minutes, Konig could have potentially scored twice Saturday. He showed some effective work to create some separation from the RGV defense in the fourth minute, only his shot was saved at the near right post. Then in the 10th minute, Konig had a little misfortune when his attempt hit the far left post. As things stand, Konig has two goals and two assists in 13 games, but there still is plenty of time for the striker to find the scoring touch he demonstrated throughout the 2015 campaign.

• 3. RGV’s offense has been hot and cold this season. On the road, the Toros were nonexistent in the opening half against Energy FC and didn’t really generate a big chance until about 10 minutes into the second half when Eric Bird stumbled his way in for a shot at the near right post. RGV’s first shot on goal wasn’t until the 38th minute with a long-distance attempt that Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi had well covered. It was a vastly different performance than RGV’s 3-0 win against OKC on June 11. Since that game, the Toros have not won a match, posting four goals over their past four games.
