MONTREAL – FC Montreal midfielder David Choiniere signed on Tuesday with the Montreal Impact, as the 19-year-old joined the MLS club as a Homegrown Player.

Choiniere signed with FC Montreal prior to the start of the 2016 USL season from the Impact’s Academy, and has made 12 appearances for the side this season. Choiniere scored his first professional goal against Bethlehem Steel FC on May 15, and has also recorded an assist in 920 minutes of action. Earlier this month he made his debut for the Impact after being called into the squad on loan for the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal against Toronto FC.

“We are very happy to sign David to a homegrown contract,” said Montreal Impact technical director Adam Braz. “He is a promising young player who has gone through every step in our system and has shown that he has the right characteristics and the mentality needed to get to the first team. We look forward to helping him continue to grow as a player and as a person and we hope that he will make a positive contribution to the team moving forward.”

“I’m really happy to sign my first MLS contract,” said Choinière. “This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I joined the Academy aged 14, and my coaches and teammates have helped me progress every day.”

Choinière had joined the Montreal Impact Academy in 2011 at the U16 level after playing with Celtix du Haut-Richelieu. Internationally, the Québécois midfielder has previously been part of the U15, U16 and U18 Canadian national teams.
